Bare fact: above 113° Fahrenheit, the nerves do not appear to distinguish between hot and cold. Law enforcement officials often mistake victims of hypothermia for victims of sexual assault as in the last stages of hypothermia, the freezing body believes it is /extremely hot/, strips itself of clothes and wanders in the open. In the last stages of hypothermia, it again seeks a hiding place — the so called "terminal burrow".

The senses are rounded off at the ends.

There are elliptical experiences that simply return to the starting point, such as hunger+thirst+desire while others spiral ambition+nostalgia+longing. Lastly, there are things which are round but never make more than a full revolution, like consciousness+time+love.

The irony is that most people miss the real mystery of these "touches at the extremes", where something goes full circle (r) and one step farther (+1).

I'm convinced the Law of Octaves applies universally in every emergent organ/ism/ization (brain|homo sapiens|canis lupus). Our cartography is a special fold of semi-tones, a characteristic discontinuity, a geodesic landmark indicating to us where we are on the micro|macro-scale when the map is not the territory.
